NJDOT to shift traffic for Route 49/55 interchange improvement project
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation today announced a traffic shift for the ongoing Route 49/55 interchange improvement project in Millville, Cumberland County.
Starting Monday, May 16, NJDOT will conduct temporary lane closures and alternating traffic patterns to shift Route 49 westbound traffic to the left. The work zone will shift to the north side of the roadway. Route 49 eastbound will remain in the current pattern.
In addition, Wade Boulevard traffic will be shifted to the right with the work zone on the west side of the roadway. Route 49 left turn lanes will be maintained at the intersection with Wade Boulevard.
These traffic patterns will remain in effect for approximately two months.
The $10 million project, which began in November 2009, includes widening Route 49 and lengthening and improving the ramps and intersections throughout the interchange of the two highways as well as the Route 49 intersection with Wade Boulevard. NJDOT is also providing new curbing, sidewalk, and lighting and drainage system improvements.
The project remains on schedule to be completed in fall 2011.
