Route 46 eastbound ramp connections with Hollywood Avenue reopened in Fairfield
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials announced that ramp access to and from Route 46 eastbound at the Hollywood Avenue interchange has been restored in Fairfield Township, Essex County.
The ramps were closed to traffic the first week of June and reconstructed as part of an ongoing $5.5 million overhaul that will improve safety and efficiency at the interchange.
NJDOT has a similar closure of the Route 46 westbound access ramps to and from Hollywood Avenue planned for reconstruction in the coming weeks. Advance notification will be provided for those closures.
NJDOT’s contractor, Tilcon New York Inc., is replacing the existing undivided ramps with two-way ramps separated by a curbed island. The ramps will be reconfigured and signalized where they intersect with Hollywood Avenue. New acceleration and deceleration lanes are being provided where the Route 46 ramps connect with Hollywood Avenue. Dedicated turning lanes from Hollywood Avenue to the Route 46 on-ramps are also being provided.
The project also includes minor bridge repair, drainage improvements and final roadway milling and paving. Work began in July 2010 and is scheduled for completion in November 2011.
NJDOT have placed variable message signs on Route 46 to inform motorists of any traffic pattern changes during construction. Real time travel and construction information is available online at www.511nj.org
