Regional resurfacing contract to address sections of distressed highways in Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren counties

(Trenton) - A regional maintenance resurfacing and roadway repair project is planned to begin next week, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced today.

Beginning on or about May 7, NJDOT will mill and repave deteriorated sections of asphalt and concrete roadway at six locations in Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren counties:

• Route 202 in both directions, between mileposts 28.32 and 29.88, in Bridgewater and Bedminster townships, Somerset County.
• I-78 eastbound, from milepost 7.40 to 9.38, in Bloomsbury and Bethlehem townships, Hunterdon County.
• I-78 westbound, from milepost 7.4 to 9.39, in Bloomsbury and Bethlehem townships, Hunterdon County.
• I-78 eastbound, from milepost 5 to 5.48, in Greenwich Township, Warren County.
• I-78 westbound, from milepost 4.29 to 5.44, in Greenwich Township, Warren County.
• Route 22 eastbound, from milepost 0.69 to 2.04, in Phillipsburg and Lopatcong townships, Warren County.
• Route 173 in both directions, between mileposts 12.64 and 14.59, in Union and Franklin townships, Hunterdon County.

The project will improve motorist safety and extend the pavement lifespan along the full width of the roadway at each location, including all travel lanes, turn lanes, shoulders and median openings.

NJDOT’s maintenance contractor, Intercounty Paving Associates, will utilize multiple work crews to advance the project at multiple locations simultaneously. Initial construction activity will begin on Route 202 in Somerset County. The work will be performed under the allowable lane closures schedule, maintaining at least one travel lane in at each location at all times. Access to all businesses will be maintained.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website for real-time travel information.
