Route 72 Bridge are
in need of rehabilitation. |
|
|
Q. |
Who
is the doing this
work? |
A. |
NJDOT
has awarded a
contract for this
work to PKF-Mark III. |
|
|

How
much will it cost? |
A. |
The American
Reinvestment and Recovery
Act (ARRA) is funding
the cost of this rehabilitation
project, which is estimated
at $5.5 million. |
|
|
Q. |
How
long will it take
to complete? |
A. |
Construction
is scheduled to begin
in September 2009 and
be significantly completed
by May 2010.
Construction activity
has been divided into
stages to
reflect the needs of
the community and the
traffic flow. |

occurs during construction? |
A. |
NJDOT
has coordinated with
the New Jersey Office
of Emergency Management
on this project. Traffic
control and lane closures
during construction
will be accomplished
by using traffic cones,
breakaway barricades,
and drums, which can
all be quickly removed
from the Route 72
Bridge so that it
can be fully opened
for traffic movement
in case of an emergency.
|
|
|
Q. |
Is
the community involved? |
A. |
Yes.
NJDOT has held a local
officials' briefing
and a pre-construction
Public Information
Center to answer questions
and address comments
from interested parties.
The NJDOT has
made every effort
to plan construction
activities in a manner
that will minimize
impacts on traffic.
Throughout the calendar
year there are various
weekday and weekend
limitations
on lane
closures along
this section of Route
72. NJDOT's contractor
will be required to
comply with these
restrictions.
In addition, the
municipalities on
Long Beach Island
have supplied NJDOT
with schedules of
special
events planned
throughout the year.
The contractor will
not be permitted to
close lanes on the
Route 72
Bridge on these special
event dates. |
