The DCF Regional School Union Campus is an alternative secondary school designed to meet the ever-increasing needs of at-risk youth.  This school will enroll those individuals from 9th through 12th grade who want a second chance to complete their education, and in turn earn a high school diploma. We offer a wide variety of supplemental and support services.  Transportation, breakfast and lunch are provided for each student.  An Individualized Program Plan (IPP) or an Individual Education Plan (IEP) will be developed for each student. Successful completion of a transitional plan may include career planning, college preparation, or job readiness skills. Through our educational interventions we hope to enhance student’s work ethics, to assist them in securing a high school diploma, and to help provide a sense of personal direction.

Description of Services

TEC Program (Transitional Education Center)

The TEC program is an alternative school program designed to meet the needs of at-risk youth ages 13 through 21.  The TEC program is designed to provide a comprehensive educational program that helps students to take more effective control of their lives by providing them with small classroom populations, greater student to teacher ratios, individualized instruction, cultural and life skills activities, and transitional planning.  With these components, students have the opportunity to:

  • Earn a High School Diploma
  • Develop skills to begin to make more appropriate life choices
  • Discover career interests
  • Transition to career opportunities and post education programs

Project TEACH (Teen Education and Child Health)

The TEACH program provides educational services for expectant and parenting teens and provides specialized life and parenting skills and guidance.  The program provides the students with parenting classes, nursery services, and academic classes.  Therefore, in order to successfully complete all aspects of the program, parent and baby are expected to attend school regularly. This year-round program provides instruction based on the individual needs and learning styles of each student.  An on-site nursery provides infant care as well as hands-on instruction in effective parenting skills.

The Project TEACH program offers a nursery:

  • On-site childcare for infants and toddlers ages six weeks to 2 ½ years
  • Primary care given by trained educators
  • Loving safe, and stimulating environment
  • Developmentally and age appropriate curriculum for the nursery

Both the TEC and TEACH programs offer:

  • General and special education programs
  • New Jersey certified teachers
  • Instructional and assistive technologies
  • Child Study Team Services
  • Full transportation services “to and from” school
  • Small class sizes with a maximum of 12 students
  • Related services as required by the student’s IEP
  • Potential concurrent enrollment for college credits for qualified students

The Nurtured Heart Approach

The Nurtured Heart Approach consists of a set of strategies that assist children and adults in further developing self-regulation and has been found to be effective with individuals of all ages. It focuses on transforming the way someone perceives themselves, and the world around them. Individuals learn to understand that they will receive endless amounts of praise, energy, recognition and reward through the positive behavior they display, and this supports building a positive portfolio of themselves, which is referred to as “Inner Wealth™.” Promising Path to Success 2.0 Grant is supporting us in integrating this approach with staff and families.
