Purpose: 

The intent of the Youth Suicide Prevention and Awareness Campaign NGO is to to develop and implement evidence-based strategies that will reduce the incidence of suicide among students and families. Applicants will develop a comprehensive and impactful Suicide Prevention Awareness Campaign that includes creating and disseminating educational materials, conducting training sessions to equip stakeholders with the necessary skills, and implementing community outreach initiatives to raise awareness about suicide prevention. Furthermore, applicants are encouraged to focus on measurable outcomes that demonstrate the effectiveness of their campaign in improving student mental health and well-being.

There are three expected outcomes for this grant program:

  • Host a Statewide Mental Health and Suicide Prevention conference.
  • Develop a Suicide Awareness Campaign; and
  • Create Online Prevention Training for Educators Statewide.

The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) has established a twenty-four (24) month grant program. The Youth Suicide Prevention and Awareness Campaign is open to community-based organizations (CBOs), institutions of higher education (IHEs) and Organizations with demonstrated experience in facilitating large-scale Youth Suicide Prevention and Awareness efforts. One award of up to $550,000 will be made.

Applicants may apply for $550,000 for the entire 24-month project period. Based on the availability of State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF), this program will begin July 1, 2024, and end on June 30, 2026.
