About Us

FFA strongly emphasizes leadership development through various avenues. Members participate in leadership events, officer roles, community service, and conferences all aimed at building skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. These experiences foster confidence, a sense of purpose, and prepare students for future leadership roles in agriculture and beyond.

  • Leadership Experience And Development (LEAD)

Leadership Experience And Development (LEAD) is a three-part leadership development series designed to meet the needs of all New Jersey FFA members—whether they’re just starting out or already serving in leadership roles. Each conference provides a unique, age- and experience-appropriate opportunity for students to grow as leaders, explore their potential, and connect with others in the FFA community.

    State Greenhand Conference (SGC)

Open to all first-year FFA members in grades 7–10, the State Greenhand Conference helps new members lay a strong foundation in FFA. Led by past State Officers, this conference introduces students to the wide range of FFA opportunities, helps them begin planning their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs, and develops skills in relationship building, goal setting, and leadership.

By the end of the event, participants who meet the necessary requirements will earn their Greenhand FFA Degree and receive a certificate of completion.

    Impact Conference

The Impact Conference is designed for returning FFA members, including chapter officers. The focus is on developing personal identity, leadership direction, communication voice, strategic thinking, initiative, and overall impact.

Impact is divided into two specialized tracks to meet the needs of different types of members:

    Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT)

This track is designed specifically for current chapter officers. In addition to tailored leadership sessions, COLT features the Chapter Operations Challenge—a hands-on, interactive workshop facilitated by current State Officers. Officers also enjoy valuable team-building and bonding experiences throughout the day.

    Leadership and Opportunities Conference (LOC)

This track is for members who are not serving as chapter officers but are ready to take the next step in their FFA journey. Facilitated by past State Officers, LOC helps students unLOCk their potential through leadership development, personal growth activities, and exposure to new FFA opportunities.

Whether you're new to FFA or a seasoned leader, the LEAD series ensures that every member has a place to grow, lead, and succeed.

The series rotates between two engaging themes: Connect, which focuses on building relationships and teamwork, and Mission, which emphasizes purpose-driven leadership and personal growth.

Each session provides hands-on learning experiences, practical tools, and meaningful discussions to help members strengthen their leadership potential and make a lasting impact.

  • State Officer Candidates School

State Officer Candidates’ School (SOCS) is a one-day leadership conference designed to give FFA members, advisors, and parents an inside look at the state officer experience. Hosted by the current state officer team, SOCS prepares potential candidates by providing a deep dive into the expectations, responsibilities, and opportunities that come with serving as a New Jersey FFA State Officer.

The member workshop focuses on the nominating committee process, outlines the roles and duties of state officers, and explores key aspects of agricultural education, including food, agriculture, and natural resources. This session is designed to help students understand what it takes to lead at the state level.

At the same time, a dedicated advisor and parent workshop offers valuable insights into what their students can expect throughout the candidacy and officer experience. Topics include the scope of involvement for state officers, core principles of agricultural education, and what comes next after elections.

SOCS is an essential step for those considering state office and for the adults supporting them throughout the journey.

  • Advocacy & Legislative Leadership Day

Advocacy and Legislative Leadership Day (ALLD) is a dynamic leadership event that embodies the FFA mission of premier leadership, personal growth, and career success. Held during National FFA Week, ALLD brings together FFA chapter leaders from across New Jersey, agricultural industry professionals, and influential policymakers to celebrate and strengthen the future of agriculture.

The day begins with a Mix & Mingle, where students connect one-on-one with New Jersey's key leaders. Representatives from colleges and agricultural organizations are also invited, offering students valuable resources and guidance as they prepare for life after high school.

During the Leadership Symposium, participants hear from prominent speakers and engage with a panel of experts on issues that matter to the agricultural community. In the afternoon, students dive into interactive workshops designed to enhance their leadership, advocacy, and communication skills—empowering the next generation of agricultural leaders.
