Hayley Klein, FoodCorps New Jersey Program Coordinator
Hayley is entering her 4th year with FoodCorps, a nationwide AmeriCorps program that strives to create a future in which every school is a healthy school, and every child is well-nourished and ready to learn. Before joining the FoodCorps team, Hayley worked on farms in Maine, Hawaii and Washington, and with organizations throughout New Jersey such as the New Brunswick Community Farmers Market and the New Jersey Agricultural Society. As a result of these experiences, she gained an immense appreciation for New Jersey's deep agricultural roots, diverse growers and inspiring consumers. After two years as a FoodCorps service member -- her first with Philip's Academy Charter School in Newark, and her second with the New Brunswick Public Schools -- Hayley served as the New Jersey Fellow and, most recently, began her new role as the FoodCorps New Jersey Program Coordinator.
Hayley supports 12 FoodCorps AmeriCorps service members to connect children with healthy foods in 10 cities and counties throughout the state in over 20 schools. FoodCorps service members partner with teachers, administrators and school food service to lend hands-on nutrition, cooking and gardening lessons, promote healthy school meals, and create schoolwide cultures of health. Within the state, FoodCorps is housed within the NJDA’s Farm to School Program and Rutgers Cooperative Extension. Hayley believes food should be just, nourishing and should bring people together. But above all else, food should be fun!
