Manjari Kapoor, Math & Science Coach and Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction, Newark Educators’ Community Charter School (NECCS)
Manjari Kapoor has worked at Newark Educators’ Community Charter School (NECCS) for 8 years. She started at NECCS as a 3rd grade classroom teacher until 2016 when she transitioned into a Math and Science Coach position and to Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction in 2018. Manjari has a master’s degree in Administration & School Leadership.
As a public charter school in Newark, NJ, Newark Educators’ Community Charter School serves students in grades Pre-K through 4th grade. NECCS services 300 students, 89.4% of which qualify for free or reduced lunch. The school’s mission is to improve the health of their students by enhancing the building’s environment to support healthy eating, and encouraging active living. Manjari has been instrumental in creating a rooftop garden at NECCS by repurposing the black rooftop. She has worked tirelessly to align the science curriculum with the garden. Her vision is to use the rooftop garden to counteract the plight of urban malnutrition. Students are encouraged to understand the science of gardening and take ownership in the growing and nurturing process. Instilling an eagerness to eat fresh seasonal vegetables and herbs encourages lifelong healthy eating habits.
As a result of this passion, Manjari has been able to establish a successful partnership with the Greater Newark Conservancy, and is a recipient school for the Jersey Fresh Farm to School Mini Grants awarded in 2018.
