SHINING A SPOTLIGHT ON THOSE MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN FARM TO SCHOOL
It has been said that the privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are and for Frank Ferrucci his destiny was set generations ago when his great- grandfather came from Italy and began his life’s work as a vegetable farmer in a small section of Gloucester County, N.J. called Piney Hollow. Through many years of hard work and a never-ending drive to expand his knowledge of organic farming practices, Frank, along with the invaluable support of his family, founded Summer Wind Farm, a USDA Certified Organic farm in Newfield, N.J. Frank, along with his business partner, Rose Moffa, expanded his interest in organic farming through the acquisition of Cecil Creek Farm, a 42 acre, USDA Certified Organic farm in Mickleton, N.J. and have continued to strive for new and expanded ways to bring the South Jersey community, the best in certified organic fruits and vegetables.
In addition to offering a 27-week organic market style Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, Cecil Creek Farm features a robust environmental education program with field trips to the farm, a summer day camp, and in-school field trips. Frank along with Luna Geier, Education Director, at Cecil Creek Farm, also assisted several local schools with starting a school garden by helping break ground on the project and providing plants and on-site expertise. This dedication to Farm to School led Cecil Creek Farm to receive the 2019 Farmer Recognition Award from the New Jersey Department of Agriculture. Frank Ferrucci is our Top Tomato for Winter 2019.
