Course Description

New Jersey Executive Development for Government Excellence (NJ EDGE):

This executive level program is designed to enhance leadership skills towards achieving priority results in today’s public service environment. Through a series of ten (10) seminars, participants will explore and build practical leadership techniques around key principles of personal mindfulness, maximizing organizational strategies and resource optimization. Senior level executives will find these highly interactive and engaging seminars very beneficial in expanding their overall knowledge of intricacies of government along with opportunities to network with peers across various organizations. Select seminar topics will include a panel of expert government leaders with executive level experience who can provide unique insight and strategies to successfully navigate through New Jersey State Government thereby providing a strategic EDGE.

Course outline:

Module 1: Your Personal Leadership Brand ($275)

  • Inspirational Leadership – This introductory session will allow participants to define their personal leadership philosophies by identifying individual core leadership values. Through self-awareness exercises, this session will focus on how one’s brand and credibility are strengthened by one’s genuine values and leadership decisions.
  • Visionary Leadership- Strategic thinking and planning is the primary focus of this seminar topic. Leaders will delve into identifying key indicators about their organization regarding current status, key goals and chronic challenges. Strategies on gaining employee buy-in for the goals and achieving long term objectives will be discussed.
  • Transformational Leadership- Positive environments lead to positive results in all organizations. This session will focus on the concept of intentionally building the organizational culture through appreciative leadership.

Module 2: Leadership Tactics for Increasing Success ($275)

  • Inclusive Leadership- Diversity and inclusion is a major core value for any thriving organization.   Leaders will explore how to strengthen the organizational culture by creating and instilling values that support inclusiveness while maintaining authenticity, cultural competence and equity.
  • Innovative Leadership- Leaders of today often need to think “out of the box” in order to keep up with the demands of dynamic organizations. This topic will focus on the cognitive techniques to foster innovation within the organization. Experts from the technology field will share information about using technology to achieve key results.
  • Collaborative Leadership- Successful organizations cultivate strong relationships with customers and stakeholders. This seminar provides strategies to evaluate and build strong cross sector organizations and stakeholder relationships while addressing the conflicts and challenges that often accompany new initiatives. 

Module 3: Leadership Acumen for Organizational Strength ($275)

  • Engagement Leadership- Human capital is one of the most important resources in any organization. Understanding how to navigate through the civil service system is both an art and a science. Participants will hear from a panel of experts who will discuss ways to manage talent within NJ government while balancing core concepts of civil service and union representation.
  • Empathetic Leadership- Building a supportive and accountable organizational culture is key to the creating a sustainable organization. This seminar will further explore employee engagement and talent development within your organization. The expert panel associated with this topic will explore the various resources available within government designed to assist with career progression, performance management, employee assistance and coaching.
  • Accountability Leadership – The discussion topics for this seminar concentrate on implementation of the vision and policy initiatives by utilizing financial resources effectively.  Expert panelists will explain inner workings of the budget and procurement processes.

Phenomenal – Only available to participants enrolled in the full series

  • Phenomenal Leader- Every effective leader desires to create a legacy by leaving a sustainable impact on the organization. The final wrap up seminar in the series will integrate all the concepts discussed in the previous sessions and focus on strategies to provide a positive lasting impact.
 
 
Registration

Learning Management System Users:  Please login into your Learning Management System account and navigate to “Now Enrolling” from the “Browse” drop-down menu.  Select the training you wish to register for and click “Enroll.” This will initiate the required approval process.   

External participants, can click here to complete the HR-1 Training Authorization Form. Your direct supervisor, departmental training coordinator, and fiscal officer must approve the form. HR-1's received without proper approval will be returned to the Department's Training Coordinator.

Please note: You are not scheduled for the requested classroom training until you receive an official email confirmation from CLIP.
