PUBLIC MEETING ON HERRING FEB. 10

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Fish and Wildlife will host a public meeting regarding the ASMFC’s proposed modifications to the Atlantic Herring Fishery Management Plan. The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10 at the Division’s Nacote Creek Research Station, Milepost 51, Route 9 in Port Republic, Atlantic County.

Modifications will address the implementation of a limited access program for the species to ensure healthy stocks as well as identify maximum sustainable yield, management area boundaries and spawning restrictions. Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut will also hold public meetings on these issues.
