PUBLIC MEETING ON SCUP JAN. 12

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish and Wildlife will host a public meeting regarding the ASMFC's proposed modifications to the Scup Fishery Management Plan. The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, January 12 at the Brielle Fire House, 509 Long Street in Brielle, Ocean County.

Modifications will provide states with a set of management options for the 2004 scup recreational fishery including combination bag/size limits and seasonal closures to ensure that the recreational harvest limit is not exceeded. Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York will also hold public meetings on this issue.

A copy of the proposed changes can be obtained by calling Fisheries Management Plan Coordinator Toni Kerns at (202) 289-6400, ext. 330, or e-mailing tkerns@asmfc.org, or via the Commission's website at www.asmfc.org. Written comments will be accepted until January 16, 2004 and should be forwarded to Toni Kerns, 1444 Eye Street, NW, Sixth Floor, Washington, DC 20005 or faxed to (202) 289-6051.
