2007 Summer Flounder Recreational Fishery Management Option Recommended

The New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council would like to thank everyone who provided input on the 2007 recreational summer flounder management options. The Council met on Thursday, March 1, 2007, in Galloway, NJ to hear the results of the online survey, receive public comment and make a final recommendation on 2007 recreational summer flounder management in New Jersey. The four options under consideration included:

During their deliberations, the Council reviewed the results of the online survey, available from February 27 to noon on Thursday, March 1. Nearly 3,600 responses were received in less than 48 hours. The overwhelming majority of responses were for Options 2 and 4.
After hearing the recommendation from the Summer Flounder Committee and recreational advisors, the survey responses, and written and spoken comments, the Council unanimously voted Option 2 (17" size limit, bag limit of 8, and season of May 26 to September 10) as the recommended recreational summer flounder management measures for 2007. The Council's recommendation will be forwarded to DEP Commissioner Jackson for approval before implementation.
