The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife has officially certified, and is pleased to announce, the catch of two new state record saltwater fish.
William Catino of Ventnor, New Jersey, reeled in the new state record Sheepshead on October 14, 2014. The fish weighed in at 19 pounds, 3 ounces eclipsing the previous state record by 2 pounds. William was fishing off a dock in Longport using a rod and Penn reel when he landed his catch.
The other state record was reeled in by Cheol Min Park of Parsippany, New Jersey, on September 30, 2014. His 23 pound, 1 ounce blueline (gray) tilefish was caught fishing from the Voyager in Wilmington Canyon and measured 35 5/16 inches in length with a girth of 27 1/2 inches. Cheol was using a custom rod and JM PE7 reel with a squid as bait. Cheol's fish weighed 5 pounds, 3 ounces more than the previous record.
