UPDATED December 19, 2015
The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife will be stocking an additional 3,000 pheasants for hunters this month, as a result of an excellent production year at the Rockport Pheasant Farm.
The Division had already committed to stocking 10% more birds (55,000 vs. 50,000)
during its regular stocking season than was advertised in the 2015-2016 NJ Hunting and Trapping Digest, and has already used 1000 of the surplus birds to double the number of pheasant stocked during the October 31, 2015 Youth Pheasant Hunt.
These additional 3,000 birds will be distributed statewide during three of the remaining days of the current stocking season. The current plan is to allocate the additional birds for the following December dates:
- Dec. 19 - additional 500 pheasants
- Dec. 22 - additional 1,370 pheasants
- Dec. 29 - additional 1,130 pheasants
In an effort to close the gap between the cost of the pheasant program and the revenues generated from it, this year the Division also selling a limited number of surplus birds. Proceeds from this sale are being reinvested into the Rockport Pheasant Farm to cover a portion of the costs associated with routine maintenance at the farm. (Sale Information)
