Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs Training Workshop
June 20-21, 2016
Pequest Natural Resource Education Center
Oxford
The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife will host a free 2-day Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs (HOFNOD) team leader training for adult staff and volunteers of youth-centered community and/or faith-based organizations looking to offer an ongoing or year-round youth fishing, conservation and aquatic education program.
HOFNOD is a great way to introduce youth to fishing, learning about their local water and other natural resources while supporting positive outdoor recreation activities and life skills. The core message of the program is that a person doesn't need to use tobacco, alcohol or drugs to have fun. The program is flexible enough to be tailored to fit most organizations.
This is a rain or shine training and registration is required.
Adults serve as Team Leaders and are responsible for delivering the program from beginning to end, generally over the course of 24 or more sessions. Organizations that participate in the program are eligible to receive professional development credits in conservation education and angling skills. Groups may also receive in-kind support such as fishing gear and equipment, educational supplies and subsidized field trips like charter boat fishing. Supplemental activities can be requested for fly tying and fly fishing, kayak fishing, crabbing and a host of other outdoor activities. HOFNOD is flexible enough to fit into school curricula, afterschool and youth-centered programs.
To register, complete the online form linked below, print and mail or e-mail to Liz.Jackson@dep.nj.gov.
There is a $50 deposit to hold your spot. Checks are kept and become a program donation if you do not attend. This is a rain or shine training. Your participation includes: breakfast, lunch, snacks and all workshop materials. Dress for the weather as some activities will go outside.
The registration deadline is Monday, June 13, 2016. Once your registration application and deposit are received, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to you detailing what to bring.
