Scope of Eligibility: Open to applicants who meet the requirements below.
Description: Under supervision of a Principal Biologist or other supervisory official in a State department or local government agency, as a trainee and productive worker, works in a specialized field requiring the application of biological principles; learns to perform the various research and testing activities of the assigned area; does other related duties.
Specific to the Position: Selected candidates will provide assistance and support for both internal and external constituents in responding to black bear populations complaints associated with public safety risks with human-bear interactions; respond to public inquiries with specific remedies based on situation to mitigate human-wildlife conflict; act as a dispatcher when staff is needed to respond to emergency or investigatory field situations; assist in black bear and furbearer research and response and wildlife-human conflict mitigation.
Note: These are not Law Enforcement positions. Selected candidates will be required to receive training through the police academy or similar. As a result, they will be required to undergo a background check, drug test, physical exam, and psychological evaluation. Selected candidates must be proficient with the use of firearms, and will be required to obtain a NJ Firearm Hunting License and a NJ Firearms Purchaser Identification Card, if they do not already possess these. These positions will undergo random drug testing.
Preferred Skill Set: Knowledge of wildlife damage control mitigation, firearm usage, safety and handling, and wildlife trapping; chemical immobilization training; preferred degree in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Wildlife Conservation or Management.
Requirements
Education: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree including or supplemented by twentyfour (24) semester hour credits in the biological sciences. NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility.
License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Residency: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".
Authorization to Work: Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Note: The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenship to the United States.
