Scope of Eligibility: Open to permanent employees in a competitive title in the Division of Fish and Wildlife, who meet the requirements below.

Description: Under limited supervision of a Supervising Biologist or other supervisory official in the Department of Environmental Protection, performs technical work involved in collecting and processing samples and data associated with fish, game, and wildlife research and management; performs a variety of assignments at one or more field stations; does other related duties as required.

Specific to the Position: Participates in leading various fisheries field surveys, individually or as a crew member; ensures gear and equipment maintenance, proper operation of vehicles/vessels, and deployment/retrieval of sampling gear; processes catches and biological samples, recording data, data entry and QA/QC, and assists with report preparation; routine maintenance of equipment and tools, vehicles, vessels, building and grounds; provides support to shellfish aquaculture leasing program lease survey; lead role with the DEP's oyster shell recycling program.

Preferred Skill Set: Preference for experience with boat operation, vessel, vehicle and equipment maintenance; experience in proper use and maintenance of marine finfish/shellfish sampling gear (field and laboratory); ability to maintain vehicles, vessels, and sampling gear; knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance; ability to maintain and safely operate tools and equipment used in the upkeep of facility grounds & buildings.

Requirements

Experience: Two (2) years of experience in the collection, sampling, cataloging, and preparation of data on fish, game, and wildlife for research studies (i.e., sampling, surveys, simple tests using scientific equipment), one (1) year of which shall have involved general maintenance of field and sampling equipment. NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the required experience may substitute college credits with a concentration in biological sciences from an accredited college or university on a year-for-year basis with thirty (30) semester hour credits being equal to one (1) year of experience.

License: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Residency: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".

Authorization to Work: Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Note: The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenship to the United States.
