The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife today announced that the documentary Deer Crossing has been nominated for an Emmy award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The 1998 film was produced cooperatively by the Division and New Jersey Network (NJN).

"We are extremely proud of this production, as it reflects our commitment to educating the public about the needs and issues surrounding wildlife today," said Division Director Bob McDowell.

The film explains the natural and historic perspective of the white-tailed deer in New Jersey and follows Division biologists through their yearly cycle of deer research.

Interviews with residents give local viewpoints and highlight the complexities of wildlife management in such an urbanized state. It was filmed entirely in New Jersey by NJN production staff with technical consultation provided by Division personnel.

The awards ceremony will take place in Philadelphia on September 18 with representatives from television stations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region present. The Division and NJN received an Emmy in 1997, for the nationally acclaimed documentary "Bear Country, New Jersey."
