The Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish Game and Wildlife would like to remind recreational anglers that the 1999 New Jersey season for summer flounder, also known as fluke, officially closed on October 11 at 11:59 p.m.

Summer flounder seasons, quotas and other management measures are based upon annual stock assessment information to help ensure that the population will eventually achieve full restoration. The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council and the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission will meet in early December to review management measures for the year 2000 and beyond.

Future information regarding the summer flounder fishery will be distributed through the media, as well as in the New Jersey Fish and Wildlife Digest - Saltwater Fishing issue due out in May. For more information contact the Division's Bureau of Marine Fisheries at 609-748-2020.
