"TAKE A KID HUNTING" PHEASANT HUNT OCT. 31

The New Jersey Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife in cooperation with the New Jersey Federation of Sportsman's Clubs will sponsor its fourth annual "Take A Kid Hunting" Pheasant Hunt on Saturday, October 31. Properly licensed youth hunters between the ages of 10 and 15 can hunt on one of nine stocked wildlife management areas (WMAs) accompanied by a licensed, non-shooting adult.

Youngsters who possess a Juvenile Hunting License or a Junior-Senior Hunting License can hunt for pheasants on the Assunpink (Monmouth County), Black River (Morris County), Clinton (Hunterdon County), Colliers Mills (Ocean County), Flatbrook (Sussex County) Millville (Cumberland County), Peaslee (Cumberland County), Whittingham (Sussex County) and Winslow (Camden County) WMAs. Registration is not required. Hunting hours are 2 p.m. to sunset, EXCEPT on the Winslow and Flatbrook WMAs when hours are 8 a.m. to sunset. A special Pheasant and Quail Stamp is not required.

In addition on this day, 175 properly licensed and pre-registered youths will be hunting on one of seven stocked WMAs: Assunpink, Black River, Clinton, Colliers Mills, Millville, Peaslee and Whittingham. Volunteer hunting mentors with trained bird dogs will guide the youngsters during two separate hunts at 7 and 11 a.m.

Also, properly licensed youth hunters between the ages of 10 and 15 accompanied by a licensed, non-shooting adult, may hunt on licensed semi-wild preserves. On these areas, youngsters can hunt for pheasants, quail and/or chukars from sunrise to ½ hour after sunset.
