The Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife recently announced the winners of its first annual New Jersey Fish and Wildlife Conservation Week Poster Contest. New Jersey students in grades 3-8 were invited to submit posters on the theme "Conserve New Jersey's Wildlife."

"The poster contest was part of the Division's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Week statewide celebration, held September 28 - October 4," said Division Director Bob McDowell. "By visually expressing the importance of conservation, students are able to share their appreciation and concern for wildlife. As we did in previous contests, each winner, their immediate family and one of their teachers will be invited to accompany our wildlife biologists on a research trip."

In addition to the research trip, winners were sent copies of the book, Wildlife Profiles, Vol. I, which features artwork and information about 52 wildlife species in New Jersey.

In 1997, New Jersey Fish and Wildlife Conservation Week was held September 28 - October 4. Throughout the week, the division sponsored numerous events to better acquaint families with the variety of wildlife that inhabits the Garden State as well as offered individuals an opportunity to partake in outdoor sports they may not normally indulge in.
