George Newett caught his record-breaking Black Drum on May 25, 1995 on Delaware Bay at Slaughter Beach. He set out in his Grady White under a near full moon armed with a 5-foot Diawa pole and a 4/0 Senator reel spooled up with 30-pound pink ande. Bait was a whole fresh surf clam on a treble hook. The weather was fair with an incoming tide about one hour into the stage.
It took about 20 minutes to reel the fish in...but it was worth the fight. The Drum was 54 inches long with a 38-inch girth and weighed in at 105 pounds .. a new State Record!
