Deputy Commissioner Visits Community Health Center in West NY To Highlight Record $50 million to Health Centers in FY 2013 Budget

On Tuesday, Deputy Health Commissioner Dr. Arturo Brito will visit the North Hudson Community Action Corp. Health Center in West New York to highlight a record $50 million in state funding for Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to care for uninsured and underinsured residents.

NHCAC President & CEO Christopher Irizarry will host the tour for Dr. Arturo Brito at 10 a.m.  Brief remarks and a photo opportunity will take place after the tour.

"Community health centers throughout New Jersey play a crucial role in providing care for New Jersey's most vulnerable residents," said Dr. Brito.  "Governor Christie's budget provides $50 million, a record high, to community health centers."

Last year, NHCAC provided services to 81,348 patients with a total of 233,171 patient visits.  The state provided $10.6 million to the North Hudson Community Action Corp. to provide care for area residents.

"North Hudson Community Action Corp is improving the health of the Latino community it serves. It is providing a medical home for thousands who need help managing chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure," Dr. Brito said.

Statewide, more than 430,000 patients are treated each year in 20 Federally Qualified Health Centers with 98 licensed satellite sites.
