Department of Health and Atlantic Health System to Convene Palliative and End-of-Life Care Roundtable

On Monday, June 24, New Jersey Health Commissioner Mary E. O'Dowd will join with Morristown Medical Center of Atlantic Health System to convene a roundtable discussion about palliative and end-of-life care and the Practitioners Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) initiative. Commissioner O'Dowd will be joined by physicians, palliative care specialists and Atlantic Health System leaders.

The roundtable will begin at 10 am and will be held in the Malcolm Forbes Amphitheatre at

Morristown Medical Center, 100 Madison Avenue, Morristown.

The standardized POLST form, which is signed by a patient's attending physician or advanced practice nurse, provides orders for health care personnel to follow for a range of life-sustaining treatments such as feeding tubes, ventilators and medication. The POLST form is designed to outline the wishes of those who have a terminal illness or a compromised medical condition.
