Media Advisory: Health Commissioner Visits Jefferson Health to Promote Flu Vaccination of Healthcare Workers

Don’t Wait, Vaccinate

On Thursday, November 15, New Jersey Health Commissioner Dr. Shereef Elnahal will join Joe Devine, President, Jefferson Health New Jersey Division, and New Jersey Hospital Association President and CEO Cathy Bennett to talk with hospital clinicians about the importance of healthcare workers getting vaccinated as part of the Department’s #FightTheFluNJ campaign.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. in the lobby at Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital, 2201 Chapel Ave. West, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002.

The New Jersey Department of Health recommends that all health care personnel get vaccinated annually against influenza. When health care personnel get vaccinated, not only are they protected, but they also protect those who are more vulnerable to serious flu illness, like babies and young children, older people, and individuals with certain illnesses.

Ninety-eight percent of Jefferson Health staff were vaccinated against flu last year. The remaining two percent included those with medical and religious exemptions.

Throughout the fall, Department of Health staff will visit community health centers, hospitals and local health departments across the state to promote vaccination, encourage healthcare staff to get vaccinated against the flu and get their flu shots to illustrate the importance of this preventive measure.

Last month, Commissioner Elnahal visited Henry J. Austin Health Center to receive an influenza vaccination. Chief of Staff Andrea Martinez-Mejia, Principal Deputy Commissioner Jackie Cornell, and Deputy Commissioners Deborah Hartel and Marcela Maziarz also visited health centers and college clinics to receive their influenza vaccination.

For more information about influenza, including where to find vaccine, visit the Department’s flu website at https://nj.gov/health/cd/topics/flu.shtml.
