Laurence M. Downes Elected Chairman of Commission on Higher Education Laurence M. Downes was elected today to serve as chairman of the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education. Mr. Downes is chairman and chief executive officer of New Jersey Resources Corporation (NJR), the parent company of New Jersey Natural Gas Company (NJNG). “I am honored to serve as chairman and look forward to working with my fellow Commissioners to advance higher education in New Jersey,” said Mr. Downes. “The ultimate accountability of everyone in the higher education community is to the students who have entrusted their future with us.” Edward J. Graham, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of South Jersey Industries, was elected to serve as vice chairman of the Commission, and three additional members of the Executive Committee of the Commission were also elected, including Dr. Ralph Izzo, president and chief operating officer of Public Service Electric & Gas Company; Mr. Kurt Landgraf, president, Educational Testing Service; and Dr. Norman Samuels, university professor and provost emeritus, Rutgers University. In other Commission business, the following four actions were taken related to specific colleges and universities: DeVry University approval to offer the Associate of Applied Science
in Electronics and Computer Technology and Bachelor of Science in Technical
