Motorcyclists:
“Ride Smart”
Motorists: “Be
Alert”
As
Spring Arrives, It’s a Winning Combination
That Can Save Lives and Reduce Injuries!
|
|
(Trenton)
- With the arrival of Spring, more motorcyclists
are taking to the roadways of New Jersey.
Assuring a safe riding season is up to
motorcyclists and motorists alike. In
a five-year period spanning 1999 - 2003,
there were 253 fatal motorcycle crashes
in New Jersey resulting in 255 deaths
(Source: Institute for Traffic Safety
Management and Research). All were preventable
which means all were unnecessary fatalities.
“Responsible
operation of a motor vehicle is up to
the rider and driver”, said Roberto
Rodriguez, Governor’s Representative
and Director of the Division
of Highway Traffic Safety. “Motorcyclists
have to make sure they can be seen by
operators of other vehicles and use proper
space management on the road. Drivers,
on the other hand, must be aware that
a motorcyclist could be nearby.”
Remember,
the same laws apply to motorcyclists and
motorists. Law enforcement agencies on
the state, county and local levels will
be looking for impaired, aggressive, speeding,
and careless riders and drivers.
Let’s
make this season a safe one. Motorcyclists:
RIDE SMART! Motorists: BE ALERT!
