(Trenton)
- The Toms River Regional School System
is going the extra mile when it comes
to raising student safety awareness during
the busy prom season. ‘Project Crash’
is a high impact presentation of a crash
scenario involving students, adults, law
enforcement and emergency medical personnel.
This morning on the High School South
athletic field, actors portrayed a fatal
crash scene, with two fatalities, injuries,
and a DWI arrest. Nothing was spared in
making this scenario ultra-realistic.
Toms River Regional Schools has been presenting
‘Project Crash’ to its prom-bound
seniors for ten years and they know how
to reach their young audience. Tammi Comer
Millar, public relations specialist for
the school system says, “There’s
hardly a dry eye in the bleachers when
this presentation is over. The young adults
learn that they are indeed mortal.”
Following the crash presentation, the
students made their way to the cafeteria
to hear a pair of speakers, State Police
Sergeant First Class Paul Blanda, and
a power point presentation by Joseph Aulisi
who represents the Vehicular Homicide
Unit of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s
Office.
Whether the issue is speeding, drunk driving,
aggressive driving or any other deadly
behavior, the Division
of Highway Traffic Safety lauds the
Toms River Regional School System and
other schools with similar programs in
this most important effort.
