This eight-hour course will prepare all responders to recognize and identify a variety of potential clandestine laboratories. This includes narcotics, chemical agents, biological agents, radiological devices, and explosives. The course will provide first responders the capability to understand many of the hazards associated with a clan lab. In addition, this course will provide HazMat Technicians with the ability perform a hazard assessment while awaiting a specialized/certified lab response and investigation team.
Prerequisite: HazMat Awareness
This eight -hour course is an equivalent to Hazmat operations and it is geared toward law enforcement officers and hazmat teams that will assist or participate in the identification and mitigation of hazardous narcotic substances. The participants will be learn about hazard assessment, PPE selection, how to use various field detection technologies to presumptively identify narcotic substances, select the appropriate decontamination agents/methods and learn how to safety package evidence.
This eight-hour course will prepare hazmat technicians to use the commonly available technologies to rule out or presumptively identify the presence of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) threats. The objective of this class is to provide an overview of the established paradigm for clearing unknown substances and CBRNE threats. The students will learn the theory, application and the correct usage of the following technologies: radiological meters, pH paper, KI paper, watesmo paper, MutiRae (PID, LEL, O2 and H2S), Colorimetric, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Raman Spectroscopy. Upon completion of this training, students will be able to presumptively identify or rule out the presence of CBRNE hazards using the available technologies.
