  1. 9-1-1 EMERGENCY MESSAGE. With the winter driving season upon us, thousands of calls regarding roadside emergencies and life threatening accidents are pouring into the state's 9-1-1 emergency centers. Last year, New Jersey residents placed more than two million emergency calls to 9-1-1 using wireless phones. However, wireless phones don't automatically provide 9-1-1 call-takers with all the information they need. That's why it is important for all wireless users to remember to provide 9-1-1 call-takers with an exact location, type of emergency, who is involved, and a phone number. If driving, pull over to a safe place, and then provide as much specific information as possible. The more information you provide, the quicker you can receive help. Together, we can all help New Jersey's 9-1-1 system help you.

  3. GOVERNOR JAMES E. McGREEVEY PARTICIPATED IN A RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY OPENING THE HOMELAND SECURITY CENTER OF EXCELLENCE (HSCOE) on Saturday, 4 January 2003. The HSCOE will serve as the focal point for the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and the New Jersey Army and Air National Guard's involvement in domestic security activities within New Jersey. The Center is capable of supporting multiple, simultaneous emergency response operations, while integrating the New Jersey Army and Air National Guard capabilities into the state emergency response system.

  4. THE INFORMATION AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DIVISION IS ESTABLISHING A VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORK (VPN) CONNECTION TO THE RESERVE COMPONENT AUTOMATION SYSTEM (RCAS) NETWORK. The VPN will allow another path to the RCAS network resources through an individual's private Internet service provider (ISP). This connection will provide fast access to RCAS to authorized personnel who have an ISP and home computer. Currently, the only method of remote access is through a dial-up modem connection on an official computer. When the VPN is in place, it will provide better service to RCAS network users and reduced cost to the Army National Guard. 

  5. STATE BOARD TO SELECT NOMINEES FOR THE 2003 SOLDIER/NCO OF THE YEAR COMPETITION. A selection board will convene on Saturday, 11 January 2003, at the State Area Command Headquarters (STARC) Building, Fort Dix, New Jersey, for the purpose of selecting New Jersey's nominees for the Soldier/NCO of the Year program. This board will select the soldiers who will represent the New Jersey Army National Guard at the First Army Competition at Camp Rowland, Connecticut. The State Board members will be CSM Trainor, 50th Bde; CSM Marshall, 57th Troop Command; CSM Wagner, 42nd DISCOM; and CSM Blazakis, T3BL.

  11. DMVA'S VETERANS SERVICE OFFICER SALUTED FOR HIS OUTSTANDING EFFORTS ON BEHALF OF VETERANS. During the month of December, Donald McNamara, our VSO for the Monmouth County area, was notified that through his efforts, the veterans he assisted received more than $400,000 in monetary awards from the federal Department of Veterans Affairs. Two of the awards were for more than $100,000 each. 

  12. MEREDITH SPANO, FROM THE PARAMUS VETERANS MEMORIAL HOME, CONDUCTED THE FINAL HEALTH INSURANCE PORTABILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY ACT (HIPAA) COMPLIANCE MEETING HELD. This assignment required hours of research and the implementation of the policies related to Federal HIPAA regulations at the three New Jersey Veterans Memorial Homes and the Central Office. The result of this massive undertaking is a NJDMVA HIPAA manual, which includes consents, authorizations, and contracts needed to ensure that the Division of Veterans Healthcare Services is HIPPA compliant.

  13. THE 119TH CORPS SUPPORT BATTALION IS REQUESTING VOLUNTEERS TO SUPPORT THEIR OVERSEAS DEPLOYMENT TRAINING mission, 8-29 March 2003, in Miesau, Germany. Individuals will attend in Annual Training Status. The following MOS's are needed: (All E6 or below) 71D, 71L, 31U, 31C, 54B, 96B, 92Y, 63B. Also, Officers O3 or below in Logistics Branches.
