Fuel Cells

As distributed generation systems appear to be growing in popularity, the use of stationary fuel cells becomes a viable alternative for small and large-scale energy load applications. Today’s fuel cells can achieve an electrical efficiency of 60% and, if used as a CHP system, the efficiency can be much higher. The importance of higher efficiency values is the ability to reduce air pollutants when compared to emissions associated with fossil fuels generators. The Bureau of Climate Change and Clean Energy is working to advance cost-effective use of fuels cells that use non-fossil fuels for commercial, industrial and institutional applications to reduce criteria pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions in New Jersey.
