The New Jersey Museum of Agriculture was incorporated as a public not?for-profit educational institution in 1984 to showcase and communicate the unique role of the Garden State in the growth and development of agriculture and the impact of its contribution to society over time. This is accomplished through research, preservation, and development of its collections, and their interpretation through exhibits and other educational programs on the evolution of agriculture and its relationship to food and fiber, science and technology, the environment and everyday life.

The Museum continues to increase its already impressive collections and its quality is second only to the Smithsonian. Further expansion of the Museum's Collection and mission can be accomplished by expanding its focus to include the history and innovations in food processing and handling. New Jersey has a long history in both production and processing of agricultural products and through their experience at in-depth educational outreach to grade schools, college classes and adult groups, as well as other informational programs. The Museum is the best place to tell the whole New Jersey food story.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the delegates to the 88th State Agricultural Convention, assembled in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on January 29, 2003, support efforts to expand the mission of the New Jersey Museum of Agriculture to include food and food processing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we thank the Governor and the State Legislature for their continuing and essential support and ask them to continue funding for the New Jersey Museum of Agriculture.
