TRENTON - More than two hundred children are expected to be united with their forever families during adoption ceremonies in courthouses throughout New Jersey this November as the New Jersey Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the New Jersey Courts celebrate National Adoption Month.

Governor Christie has proclaimed November 2015 as Adoption Awareness Month in New Jersey (attached). Adoption Month ceremonies begin November 10 throughout the Garden State

Reporters interested in covering an adoption ceremony listed below or speaking with an adoptive family may contact the DCF Office Communications and Public Affairs at 609-888-7915.

DCF continues to recruit an impressive number of foster and adoptive homes.  The quantity and diversity of available foster homes help ensure a child's first placement will succeed and lead to adoption.

About ninety-four percent of children adopted in New Jersey are adopted by their foster parents.  Potential foster and adoptive families undergo an identical licensing process, providing a seamless transition from being a foster to an adoptive family.

This year, The Bridge of Books Foundation, a New Jersey Heroes organization recognized by First Lady Mary Pat Christie, is donating over 500 books to children whose adoptions will be finalized during National Adoption Month.  Each adoptive child will receive a tote bag filled with age appropriate books to begin their own library and symbolize the beginning of their new life with their adoptive family.

National Adoption Day was initiated in 2000 by the Alliance for Children's Rights, with support from organizations including the Freddie Mac Foundation and the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
