TRENTON – More than 200 children are expected to be adopted in court houses throughout New Jersey this month as the New Jersey Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the New Jersey Courts celebrate National Adoption Month.

National Adoption Month adoptions in New Jersey begin November 9.

Reporters interested in covering an adoption ceremony listed below or speaking with an adoptive family may contact the DCF Office of Communications and Public Affairs at 609-888-7915.

DCF continues to recruit an impressive number of foster and adoptive homes.  The quantity and diversity of available foster homes help ensure a child’s first placement will succeed and lead to adoption.

About 94% percent of children adopted in New Jersey are adopted by their resource parents or relatives.  Potential resource and adoptive families undergo an identical licensing process, providing a seamless transition from being a foster to an adoptive family.

National Adoption Day was initiated in 2000 by the Alliance for Children’s Rights, with support from organizations including the Freddie Mac Foundation and the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

For more information on how to adopt children in New Jersey, call 1-800-99-ADOPT (992-3678) or visit the DCF adoption Web site at www.njadopt.org.
