About The Position

The aquatics program supervisor will be responsible for oversight of the United States Lifesaving Association Certification for our ocean and freshwater swimming areas to ensure that our programs operate in accordance with the USLA guidelines for Open Water Lifeguard Agency Certification, including oversight of annual updates to our training and administration manuals.

The aquatics program supervisor will also be responsible for oversight of the NJ State Park Service American Safety and Health Institute training center and trainers for the following: Advanced First Aid, BLS, oxygen administration, the use of an automatic external defibrillator, and bloodborne pathogens.

Working days and hours are flexible and will vary throughout the year, with increased hours (no more than 20 per week) from May through September.

Starting Salary $30 per hour

Qualifications

• A minimum of 3 years of experience as a lifeguard or program supervisor for an agency which meets the standards of the United States Lifeguard Association.
• Certified or willing to be certified by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety and Health Institute Advanced in Advanced First Aid/CPR and/or BLS.
• Have the ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.
• Possess a driver’s license valid in the state of New Jersey.

About The Position

The lifeguard trainer will be responsible for training and certifying State Park Service lifeguards in American Safety and Health Institute Advanced First Aid, BLS, oxygen administration, the use of an automatic external defibrillator, and bloodborne pathogens. In addition, the lifeguard trainer will retrain, retest, and re-certify lifeguards in the above skills as required.

Starting Salary $25 per hour

Qualifications

• Must be certified by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety and Health Institute Advanced in Advanced First Aid/CPR and/or BLS.
• Must possess a current certification or willing to be certified by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety and Health Institute Advanced as an Advanced First Aid/CPR and/or BLS instructor.
• Have the ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.
• Possess a driver’s license valid in the state of New Jersey.

About The Position

The Water Safety Supervisor will provide support and expertise for the efficient operation of all lakefront beaches within the region and ensure that lifeguard training procedures and standards are consistent throughout. This position will require frequent visits to each bathing area and will assist with problems, training, scheduling and other aspects of the lifeguard program to ensure that it conforms to State Park Service policies.

Starting Salary $27 per hour

Qualifications

• A minimum of three years as a seasonal open water lifeguard or a full-time open water lifeguard at a lifeguard agency which meets the standards of the United States Lifesaving Association.
• Certified or willing to be certified by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety and Health Institute Advanced in Advanced First Aid/CPR and/or BLS.
• Have the ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.
• Possess a driver’s license valid in the state of New Jersey.

About The Position

Lifeguard positions are anticipated at nine swimming areas across the state.While candidates must pass running and swim tests prior to employment, prior experience is not necessary. The State Park Service will train lifeguards in cardiopulmonary resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillators, first aid and other medical matters. Each lifeguard will also receive a U.S. Lifesaving Association certification. State swimming areas open Saturday, May 29.

Starting Salary $18.50 per hour in most areas, oceanfront guards at Island Beach State Park start at $19.50 per hour.

Qualifications
• No previous experience is required.
• Applicants must be 16 years of age or older.
• Applicants under 18 years of age must have an official State Park Service permission slip signed by a parent or legal guardian to participate in lifeguard testing.

About The Position

The State Park Service is expanding its aquatics program this year and will hire Junior Lifeguards at least 15 years old, at $16 per hour. While junior lifeguards cannot perform lifeguard duties for the public until age 16, the position provides a head start on their training.

Position Requirements
Applicants must be 15 years of age and able to work weekends and holidays.
