“As part of our continuing commitment to assisting families in our local communities, our employees look forward to the Toys and Gifts for Kids Drive each year,” said Commissioner Velez. “This year, more than ever, children in our communities need our support,” said Velez.
Last year, state employees donated over 4,000 toys to about 10 non-profit agencies for distribution to families identified through various outreach strategies.
Suggested toys and other items for the 2009 Annual Toys and Gifts for Kids Drive include, for children ages 10-17: hats, scarves, gloves, age-appropriate games, CDs, books, arts and crafts kits or supplies, handbags, jewelry, footballs and basketballs.
For children under the age of 10, suggestions include: culturally-diverse dolls, stuffed animals, toy cars and trucks, age-appropriate games, toy drums and other toy instruments, wooden or plastic building blocks and books.
Toys and gifts must be unwrapped and can be dropped off in the collection boxes located in the office lobbies of New Jersey State Government departments, divisions and agencies.
