This year, students are asked to depict what makes their parent(s) unique and how that characteristic or attribute has influenced their view of parenthood. Students are encouraged to consider the diversity of families when thinking about what makes theirs unique.
“We are excited to recognize the role that parent(s) play in fostering a sense of individuality and uniqueness in their children,” said Jennifer Velez, Commissioner of the Department of Human Services. “This year’s contest will demonstrate how children think about their own families and the ways in which parents serve an integral role in their children’s emotional lives. We look forward to seeing the submissions.”
All entries must be postmarked no later than Friday, April 4, 2014. Staff from the Division of Family Development and its Office of Child Support Services will judge the contest. Winners will receive U.S. Savings Bonds and certificates of achievement during an awards ceremony in May.
Each year, the winners’ submissions also are included in the Office of Child Support’s calendar.
