Mission Statement

Under the direction of the New Jersey Department of Military and Veteran’s Affairs, the Staff of The BGWC Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery is committed to providing Veterans and their eligible family members with a final resting place in a state shrine that commemorates their service to our Nation. We will treat their families, visitors and each other with dignity, respect and compassion while maintaining these hallowed grounds in a manner befitting the sacrifices of all those who rest here.

At the Time of Need

Locating a Grave site

To locate the grave site of a friend or relative at Doyle Veterans Cemetery call (609) 738-2400 or visit the Administration Office or the Public Information Center. The office is open Monday through Friday except State Holidays between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is also an electronic grave locator and a locator book near the public restrooms.

Additionally, you can visit the Nationwide Gravesite Locator, maintained by the federal department of Veterans Affairs. Here you search for burial locations of veterans and their family members in VA National Cemeteries, state veteran's cemeteries, various other military and Department of Interior cemeteries, and for veterans buried in private cemeteries when the grave is marked with a government grave marker.

Grave site Maintenance

Great care is given to maintain Doyle Cemetery as befits a shrine honoring our Nation's service members. Graves are filled and leveled after each burial. Graves sections are seeded or sodded in the Spring and Fall seasons. As soil settles sinkage may occur especially during the first year after burial. Every effort is made to restore a grave site as rapidly as possible, however, this may take longer than expected during times of adverse weather conditions, such as heavy rains and harsh winter months.

After the Time of Need

Military Honors

Full military honors may be arranged for Medal of Honor recipients and a service member who dies while on active duty.

For honorably discharged veterans, honors are limited to 2 military representatives who will represent the veteran's service branch at the funeral and present the flag to the designated recipient. Taps will be electronically played.

Military honors are arranged for by the funeral director.

Only uniformed service members or former service members are entitled to military honors.

Burial Flags

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) issues over 400,000 American flags for deceased veterans annually. Most veterans are eligible for a burial flag. Reservists entitled to retired pay are also eligible to receive a burial flag. Only one burial flag may be provided per veteran at the time of need.

When not provided by the funeral director, a burial flag may be obtained from any VA regional office and most U.S. post offices by completing VA Form 2008. Application for United States Flag for Burial Purposes, and submitting it with a copy of the veteran's discharge papers at any of these locations.

Headstones

The Government will provide, at no cost to the next of kin, flat bronze markers on granite bases. These are ordered by the cemetery staff, not the funeral home or the next of kin.

Grave liners

A grave liner is a concrete container within a grave site in which the casket is placed. It is provided at no cost and is used to reduce the amount of grave sinkage subsequent to the interment. Grave liners are neither sealed nor water tight.
