(TRENTON) – New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher today announced that Robert P. Vivian Jr. has been named as the New Jersey Department of Agriculture’s new Legislative Liaison.

Mr. Vivian has 20 years of governmental and political experience.  He previously had worked in the insurance industry and as an assistant to the Commissioner at the state Department of Banking and Insurance.

“Rob’s extensive experience in government and knowledge of legislative issues make him an ideal choice to help the Department continue to serve the agricultural community,” said Secretary Fisher.  “Rob will be an integral member of our team, working on areas of concern critical to our constituents.”

As Legislative Liaison, Mr. Vivian will interface with lawmakers at all levels of government and other state Departments on legislative and policy matters.

During his career, Mr. Vivian worked for both a state Assemblyman and a state Senator, drafting and researching legislative policy and handling constituent services.  His political experience includes work on local races, Congressional, U.S. Senate, Gubernatorial and Presidential campaigns.  He is a graduate of Susquehanna University with a degree in History.

“There are a multitude of issues impacting those in the agriculture industry at this time,” said Vivian.  “I will be doing extensive research and outreach to the community to positively impact those who make our state the Garden State.”

Mr. Vivian is from Westfield, New Jersey, growing up there gardening with his parents.  His mother was an accomplished gardener, and lent her expertise to Rob’s elementary school, establishing a school vegetable garden.    His parents now own a small farm in Maine, growing low-bush blueberries and vegetables, raising bees for honey and tapping maple trees for syrup.

Active in his community, Vivian is a member or leader of various organizations including: Sons of the Revolution in the State of New Jersey, Society of Colonial Wars in the State of New Jersey, New Jersey Society of the Order of Founders & Patriots of America and the New Jersey State Opera Board of Governors.
