Section 8 Single Room Occupancy (SRO) - Moderate Rehabilitation
Assists in the rehabilitation of privately owned, substandard single room occupancy rental units to provide housing for homeless, very low-income individuals eligible for Section 8 rental assistance. Technical assistance is provided to property owners during all phases of rehabilitation, including preparing work write-ups, evaluating contractor bids, applying for financing, and construction and quality control. Upon completing the rehabilitation work, the project sponsor receives financial assistance, administered by the Housing Assistance Element over a 10 year period, in the form of Section 8 rental assistance. Assistance is paid on behalf of eligible tenants.
