New Jersey Department of Education

Marie H. Katzenbach School for the Deaf

Katzenbach provides a comprehensive education in an English and American Sign Language Bilingual environment that prepares deaf and hard of hearing (D/HH) students from ages 3-21 for postsecondary education or a career upon graduation. A parent-infant playgroup is offered twice a week for families and children 16-36 months. Special programs for D/HH students with multiple disabilities and behavior disorders are available. Students are required to meet state graduation requirements, and all courses meet the state's Student Learning Standards. Residential services are provided to about 30 percent of the school's student population from Monday-Thursday. Each July, Katzenbach administers a four-week extended school year program that addresses academic, social and transition goals through a variety of program options.
