Technology Education

Note: Requirements, passing test scores, and fees are subject to change without notice. All credits must appear on an accredited two- or four-year college or university transcript.

This endorsement authorizes the holder to teach technology education in all public schools with the exception of approved career and technical education programs. Technology education includes content aligned with Standard 8.2 of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.

Subject Matter Preparation

Credit Requirements

A minimum of 30 semester-hour credits in a coherent sequence in the subject field of technology education. At least 12 of the 30 semester-hour credits must be at the advanced level of study (junior, senior or graduate level).

The 30 semester-hour credits must include study in:

  1. The nature of technology or technology and society
  2. Technological design
  3. The use of tools and materials, and safety related to using tools and materials
  4. Three out of the following seven technology areas:
    • Agricultural and related biotechnologies
    • Construction
    • Energy and power
    • Information and communication
    • Manufacturing
    • Medical
    • Transportation

Coursework Examples

  • Biotechnology system
  • Engineering design
  • Manufacturing and materials processing
  • Safety in manufacturing
  • Technology and the environment

The final determination as to which courses will be counted towards the subject matter is based on content standards found in the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.

Courses in pedagogy or education are not acceptable.
