Purpose: The Troops to Teachers: Pathway to Certification Year 1 of 4 grant program is a federally funded pilot program intended to expand the number of military veterans pursuing careers in teaching. Support for participating veterans under this program will include registration guidance, outreach, counseling, employment readiness and job referral services with high needs school districts. This grant program is a four-year grant program. The successful applicant will have partnered with one or more high poverty schools and will recruit military veterans into the teaching profession, support them as they complete preparation programs and meet certification requirements. The maximum award under this program is $100,000 in Year 1 and is funded from federal Department of Defense funds. Only 1 award will be made. Eligibility to apply for this Troops to Teachers: Pathway to Certification Year 1 of 4 grant is limited to institutions of higher education in the State of New Jersey that both 1. operate approved educator preparation programs and 2. accept the GI Bill. Applicants must also partner with at least one local high needs school to offer clinical components of the program and potential employment assistance to military veterans. The Year 1 project period is May 1, 2019-June 30, 2020
