Americans use almost $1 million of energy every minute of every day, all year long.

Saving energy helps you, helps the environment, and helps New Jersey. This page offers ways to save electricity and fuel for heating or running a vehicle.
Here are some easy ways to conserve energy and save money!
Look for ENERGY STAR®  labels on home appliances and products. Using these energy-efficient products such as compact fluorescent light bulbs saves money on your monthly energy bills as well as cuts back on your household carbon emissions.

Turn off your computer and other household appliances when they are not in use. Don’t forget to unplug chargers for items such as MP3 players and cellular phones as they continue to draw power even when they are not in use.

Air-dry your dishes instead of using the dishwasher’s drying cycle.

Keep your thermostat comfortably low in the winter and comfortably high in the summer. Install a programmable thermostat to maintain energy-efficient temperatures and save about $100 a year in energy costs.

Recycle your batteries! Or better yet, use rechargeable batteries. The mercury, lead, nickel, cadmium, acid and heavy metals in batteries are harmful to the environment when not properly disposed of.

In winter months, draw your curtains and use tight-fitting, insulating window shades. Sealing air leaks   and adding insulation to areas in your house where gaps and cracks are often found will decrease the amount of energy needed to efficiently heat your home. Storm windows reduce heat loss through windows by 25 to 50%.

Take quick showers instead of baths.

Use ceiling fans   in the summer AND winter. By reversing the direction of the blades in the winter, warm air is pushed down and heat is distributed throughout the house.
