NJ FamilyCare Activity Requirements Checker

The federal government has changed the rules around who is eligible for NJ FamilyCare starting Fall 2026. These rule changes are part of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” that was signed into law by President Trump in July 2025. These new rules do not apply to everyone.

Many people will not be affected by these rules. This includes:
- Adults 65 and over
- Parents and primary caregivers of a young child
- People with certain health, family, or life conditions that are considered "exemptions"

Generally, the new rules apply to people who meet all of these categories:
- Adults 19–64
- On Medicaid expansion
- Without exemptions

NJ FamilyCare will contact individuals by Fall 2026 with more information if these changes apply to them, as the new rules may affect their coverage and require them to complete 80 hours per month of work, study, training, or volunteering to stay covered.

The NJ FamilyCare Activity Requirements Checker is a tool that residents can use to help them understand whether the new rules might apply to them.
