TRENTON – On Thursday, January 22, 2026, members of the public are invited to pay their respects to former Governor Richard J. Codey in the New Jersey State House Rotunda, where he will lie in state.

“Governor Dick Codey was one of a kind and exemplified the very best our state has to offer. As we come together in mourning, we honor and celebrate Governor Codey’s lifelong commitment to public service and the profound impact he had on our state,” said Governor Mikie Sherrill.

When: 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

What: On the morning of Thursday, January 22, Governor Codey will be escorted to the New Jersey State House Rotunda by the Honor Guard of the New Jersey State Police. Members of the public are invited to pay their respects to Governor Codey in the Rotunda, where he will lie in state.

Where: New Jersey State House Rotunda, 125 W. State St, Trenton, NJ 08608

Press: A private visitation hour of Governor Codey that will take place earlier in the morning will be available via livestream. Governor Sherrill will attend during the private visitation hour.

Due to limited space, press seeking to capture footage during the public visitation will be allowed to do so only from the second and third floors of the Rotunda. No press will be allowed to video or photograph on the first floor of the Rotunda.Press may arrive at 11:00 a.m.

All members of the public and press must enter through the security screening building. West State Street will be closed.
