Shellfish

The Shellfish Project oversees a certification program which requires wholesale shellfish dealers to receive, store, process, and ship post-harvest shellfish (oysters, clams, mussels) under safe and sanitary conditions. Shellfish inspectors conduct routine inspections of certified shellfish dealers to ensure compliance with state and federal shellfish standards. Cases of shellfish illness are investigated in cooperation with local, state, and federal counterparts.

INITIAL APPLICATIONS

To apply for a new NJ Shellfish Dealer Certification:

  1. Click here to open the Initial Application Form F-48 [PDF]

  2. Complete the form electronically using a PDF editing software or print and write legibly

  3. Collect the following two required attachments for review:

    1. A draft copy of your Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) plan

    2. A complete wholesale food-cosmetic license application and payment or a copy of your current wholesale food-cosmetic license
      • Payment is required for the wholesale food-cosmetic license. There is no additional fee for the shellfish dealer certification.

  4. Submit your completed application and attachments:

    • Via USPS

RENEWAL APPLICATIONS
Renewal reminder postcards are mailed to each registrant at least one month before expiration.
It is the registrant's responsibility to download the renewal application form online.
Renewal forms are no longer mailed.

 

To renew your existing NJ Shellfish Dealer Certification:

  1. Click here to open the Application Form F-48 [PDF]

  2. Complete the form electronically using a PDF editing software or print and write legibly.
    • Please write your Shellfish Dealer Certification Number in the indicated field in the upper right corner of the form.

  3. Collect the following required attachment:

    1. A complete wholesale food-cosmetic license application and payment or a copy of your current wholesale food-cosmetic license
      • Payment is required for the wholesale food-cosmetic license. There is no additional fee for the shellfish dealer certification.

  4. Submit your completed application and attachment:
