Whether you, a family member or friend are in need of substance abuse treatment, the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), as the NJ single state authority, establishes the policy for the substance use disorder treatment, prevention and recovery support services.
DMHAS sanctions a full continuum of care by independent substance abuse treatment provider agencies, which utilize the American Society of Addiction Medicine patient placement criteria.
Treatment services in New Jersey range from detoxification services and outpatient care, to short- and long-term residential treatment, and the treatment definitions (Annex A1 ASAM Service Descriptions and Annex A3 Enhancement Package Descriptions) may assist you in understanding your available options. Prevention and early intervention and recovery support services are also available and funded by DMHAS.
In addition to contracts, over 25% of addictions funding is in the form of participation in a Fee-For-Service (FFS) Network. FFS initiatives are a means to ensure utilization and to promote client retention in care. For detailed information on FFS, please go to the NJSAMS website.
